Since the inception of Seyi Makinde as the Governor of Oyo State, he has been working to implement his platform, The Oyo State Roadmap for Accelerated Development, 2019–2023. This approach has been followed as he prioritises the four governing pillars—the economy through Agribusiness, Education, Health care, and Security on which the map is founded. By the end of his first year in office, he had delivered more than half of the promises he had made to the citizens of Oyo State. At the halfway point of his mandate, he has achieved, and in some cases even gone beyond, the overall manifesto completion objective of 75%.
Mr. Taiwo Adisa, the governor’s main press secretary, disclosed that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has been carrying out the commitments he made during the campaign to build a new Oyo State since his inception in office.
In contrast to assertions made by the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor in the 2019 election, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, that none of the promises Governor Seyi Makinde made to the electorate had been kept, the governor’s aide claimed that in the previous 18 months, the governor had established a strong foundation for economic growth in the state and implemented policies and programmes that were lifting the populace out of poverty and into prosperity.
The statements of Adelabu are clear proof that he is out of touch with Oyo State’s true reality. Governor Seyi Makinde, as the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, made a pledge on the campaign trail that later crystallised within a few years of his governance in Oyo State.
Also, the Governor has established Primary Health Centres in each of the State’s 351 wards in relation to Free Healthcare and made it easily accessible to the residents of Oyo State. Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has made health care reform a priority in his administration. He has announced several initiatives to improve the health care system in the State. These include the establishment of a Health Care Service Commission to strengthen the State’s health care system, the introduction of a Health Insurance Scheme to provide medical coverage to indigent citizens, and the construction of additional health care facilities. The Health Care Service Commission was established to provide oversight and regulation of health care services in the State.
The Commission ensures that health care facilities in the State adhere to standards of service delivery and regulation. The Commission will also monitor the performance of health care providers and ensure that health care services are accessible to all citizens. The Health Insurance Scheme is designed to provide medical coverage to indigent citizens, including those living in rural areas. Under the scheme, eligible citizens will be able to access medical services at designated health facilities.
The State also provides financial assistance to those who cannot afford the cost of treatment. Governor Makinde launched an initiative to build additional health care facilities in the State. The initiative will focus on providing access to quality health care in underserved areas of the State. This will ensure that all citizens have access to health care.
Olatubosun disclosed that Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration had made significant progress, including implementing the current administration’s policy of Free education. Governor Seyi Makinde has taken a number of steps to reform the education sector in the State. His administration has launched the Oyo State Education Sector Investment Plan (OYOSEISIP) which seeks to improve the quality of education in the State. The plan is focused on improving teaching and learning, strengthening school infrastructure, and improving access to quality education.
Governor Makinde has introduced a number of reforms to improve the quality of teachers in the State. Governor Makinde introduced a number of initiatives to improve access to quality education in the state. These include the establishment of several new secondary schools in the State.
In 2019, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Nigeria, began an ambitious reform of the State’s agriculture sector. His goal is to transform the sector into a major driver of economic growth and job creation, and to improve the quality of life for the State’s rural communities. To achieve this, Governor Makinde has made a range of investments in the sector, including in infrastructure and technology. The Governor is also introducing a number of initiatives to increase the productivity of Oyo’s farmers. These include the introduction of mechanised farming systems, the provision of improved access to agricultural inputs and finance, and the establishment of agricultural technology hubs.
Governor Seyi Makinde created a more supportive policy environment for the agricultural sector. This includes the introduction of a revised agricultural policy framework, which will provide guidance on the promotion of sustainable production, the improvement of food security, and the implementation of other strategic interventions. Governor Seyi Makinde is committed to transforming Oyo State’s agriculture sector into a major engine of economic growth and job creation. He is confident that, with the right investments and initiatives, the state can become a leader in the agricultural sector in Nigeria and beyond.
Speaking on the State’s security, Olatubosun praised Governor Makinde’s wisdom in ensuring Oyo State is secure despite the State’s constrained resources. Governor Seyi Makinde has also provided patrol vans so that security forces can provide effective security in the state. The Oyo State Security Trust Fund was established, a State-wide security task force was created, and the unified command-and-control centre was launched. Governor Makinde’s security reform plan is widely seen as a success. Crime rates have decreased, and public perceptions of security have significantly improved. This has been achieved through a combination of increased resources, improved coordination, and greater public engagement with security issues.
Governor Seyi Makinde launched a number of initiatives to improve the State’s infrastructure. These include the Oyo State Infrastructure Master Plan (OSIMP), which outlines the government’s vision for development and investment in the state; the Oyo State Integrated Transport System (OSITS), which seeks to improve connectivity within the State; and the Oyo State Infrastructure Improvement Programme (OSIIP), which aims to facilitate the development of high-quality infrastructure through the use of public-private partnerships.
Governor Seyi Makinde has worked to improve road networks in the State by constructing new roads and rehabilitating existing ones. He has also invested in the construction of new bridges, such as the Akinyele bridge, as well as the rehabilitation of existing ones. He has implemented several projects to improve access to water, electricity, and healthcare services in the State. He has invested in the construction of new water treatment plants and sewage systems as well as the rehabilitation of existing ones.
Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun, Oyo State’s commissioner for information, culture, and tourism, stated explicitly that Governor Seyi Makinde had fulfilled all of his campaign promises throughout the state. At the opening of GSM Market and Artisans Marine at Saki Town Hall, he made mention that the current administration has been transparent and accountable to the public. In addition, he reiterated the governor’s pledge to make more improvements in the zones if he were to be re-elected in 2023.
Governor Seyi Makinde appears to have substantially fulfilled the promises he made in his manifesto, if not entirely, based on all the positive feedback and praise he has received from residents of Oyo State and other numerous sources. Governor Makinde has been an advocate for the people of Oyo State and has worked to ensure that their needs are met. His tenure has seen significant progress in the State and he is expected to continue to build on this progress in the years to come.
